Marsha Overbergen, 89, of Oskaloosa, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Oskaloosa Care Center.
Marsha Hila Overbergen, daughter of Henry and Mattie (Vermeer) Jansen, was born September 19, 1933, in Pella, Iowa. Marsha was a 1951 graduate of Pella Christian High School and then worked at Vermeer Manufacturing as Gary Vermeer's first secretary. Marsha married the love of her life, Jim Overbergen, on June 22, 1955, at her home in Pella. They lived in Oskaloosa for a short time before moving to the Overbergen home place west of Oskaloosa. Jim and Marsha raised four sons on the farm, and Marsha was the true heart of the home, keeping everyone well-fed and headed in the right direction.
The family enjoyed many vacations with extended family in Minnesota, and later, Jim and Marsha took several excursions to Europe, visiting Holland, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland. After moving into Oskaloosa in 1987, Jim and Marsha enjoyed bike riding in the neighborhood and rode many bike trails in Iowa. Their fall rides along the Mississippi River were one of their favorites.
Marsha volunteered with Love INC., Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary, and was a snack-bar volunteer. Marsha was a member of the Central Reformed Church and served with several church ministries. She helped with countless funeral lunches, volunteered with Bible School, taught Sunday School, and helped in the church library. Dinner, every other Sunday at Jim and Marsha's home was a family tradition for many, many years. Marsha loved the Lord and showed it in many ways, such as her amazing love for her family and her generous gift of helping and volunteering.
