Brant Bruxvoort, 95, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.
Brant Harold Bruxvoort, the son of John and Cora Wilma (Van Kooten) Bruxvoort, was born August 6, 1929, near Searsboro, Iowa. He and his parents soon moved one mile north of Lynnville, where he started early schooling. In the mid-30s, they moved to the Sandridge area north of Pella, where they lived until 1941, when they moved west of Oskaloosa, IA. Brant finished his 8th grade at West Weaver Country School. He attended Pella Christian High School and began farming with his father. He made his Profession of Faith in the First Christian Reformed Church of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Brant's life was filled with music. He started piano lessons when he was eight years old and began organ playing as a junior in high school. He sang with male quartets, choirs, and choruses for many years. In 2011, his church honored him for serving as an organist for 65 years.
Brant married Martha Roozeboom in Oskaloosa in 1949. He continued farming with his father and later his two sons north of Evans. During these years, he enjoyed serving on two Christian school boards, his church council, and the county extension board. He was a member of the Farm Bureau since 1949. He served as assistant elder for The Good News Chapel, taught Sunday school, and played the organ for evening services for many years.
Brant and Martha enjoyed many vacations with family at the Lake of the Ozarks. They traveled to all four corners of the United States and the Bahamas and took three exciting trips to the Netherlands.
In 1979, he and Martha left the farm and moved to Oskaloosa, where he was employed as a truck driver for Drost Equipment.
Born to Brant and Martha were five children: a daughter, Bonita, who died in infancy, Ervin, Barbara, Carolyn, and Byron.
Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Ervin (Deborah) Bruxvoort and Byron (Debra) Bruxvoort, all of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Barbara (Dave) DeJong, also of Oskaloosa; and Carolyn (Steven) Lenes of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Roozeboom of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John and Cora, Brant was preceded in death by Martha, his wife of 74 years; his older sister, Cecelia, who died as an infant; an infant daughter, Bonita; a great-granddaughter, Macy; parents-in-law, Gerrit and Marie Roozeboom; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Henry and Mary Ann and Johanna Roozeboom, Everit Roozeboom, and Marion and Margaret VandeKeift.
The Funeral Service for Brant Bruxvoort will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, with Rev. Jon Spronk officiating. A Family Prayer Service will be held at 10:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall before the service. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at the First Christian Reformed Church; the family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School.
