Columbia, SC - Ms. Martha Carolyn Stroud Marlowe, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2025, in the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, officiated by Brent Taylor, with burial to follow at the Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Born on September 15, 1938, in Chesterfield, SC, Ms. Marlowe was the daughter of the late Ernest Blease Stroud and Geneva Isabel Phillips Stroud. She graduated from Chesterfield High School and pursued her nursing degree at the Columbia School of Nursing. Following her graduation, Carolyn dedicated 30 years to serving as a registered nurse at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where she made a significant impact in the lives of many.
Ms. Marlowe was raised attending her family church, Friendship United Methodist Church in Chesterfield, SC. A devoted family woman, she cherished caring for her loved ones and took great pleasure in organizing family gatherings. Known for her gardening talents, she had a remarkable ability to nurture plants, as well as pursue her passion for sewing and crafts. An avid fan of Elvis Presley, she found great joy and pride in her role as a grandmother, reveling in the title bestowed upon her.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Marlowe was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Marlowe Mooney, as well as her siblings: Jerrold Ernestine Stroud, Mary “Monkey” Stroud Entzminger, Sandra “Sandy” McMorris, Philip A. “Bo” Stroud, Beverly S. “Cookie” Russell, and Polly Jean Stroud Rivers.
She is survived by her grandson, Cory (April) Busby of Gaston, SC; great-grandchildren, Caylee Marie Busby, Adin Deanna Busby, and Cambree Ann Busby; her sister, Betty Ann Stroud of Powder Springs, GA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Carolyn’s niece, Rosemarie and her husband, Rick for their assistance in caring for Carolyn and willingness to help anyway they could with Carolyn’s care and showing her warmth and love every day, as well as to the compassionate staff of Medical Services of America Hospice in Irmo, SC.
