Martha Helen Dykes
Saturday, March 1, 1952 – Saturday, April 26, 2025
Martha Helen Dykes, age 73, of Milan, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia. She was born on March 1, 1952, in the unincorporated community of Workmore in McRae, Georgia.
Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 29 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Kenneth White will officiate, assisted by Rev. Darrell Barlow. Interment will be held at Milan City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lowes Funeral Home on Monday, April 28 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
Martha worked as a seamstress at Roydon Wear for many years and developed many lasting friendships with her colleagues. She was of the Baptist faith.
Family was the cornerstone of Martha's world. She was a loving mother to her children, Andy Dykes (Beverly) of McRae, Danny Dykes (Susan) of Pearson, and Amy Dykes (Elijah) of Soperton. Her legacy continues to bloom through her 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored with every ounce of her being. Martha's love extended to her siblings, Genette Curtis of Milan, Laylene Cherry of Dublin, Larie Jean Lane (Eddie) of McRae, and James Horton (Lucille) of McRae, as well as her sister-in-laws, Lounell White (Kenneth) of McRae and Rose Marie Dykes. Her numerous nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Dykes.
Martha's zest for life was evident in her many interests and hobbies. She had a passion for cooking as she prepared meals that were as much a feast for the soul as they were for the palate. Her love for dance and song was infectious, bringing light and laughter to family gatherings. Fishing with her late husband was one of Martha's most cherished pastimes. Together, they shared quiet moments by the water's edge, creating memories that Martha held dear long after his passing.
As we bid farewell to Martha Helen Dykes, we celebrate a life lived with boundless love and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends. Martha's journey through life was a dance of joy, a song of love, and a story of devotion that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
