Martha Frances Edwards

Martha Thomas Edwards, a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at her home in Southern Shores, NC, at the age of 71. Born on September 17, 1953, in Williamston, NC, she lived a life full of dedication, passion, and resilience.
Martha graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor's degree in education, a testament to her commitment to learning and teaching. She devoted her career to nurturing young minds as a teacher at Kitty Hawk Elementary School and Nags Head Elementary School.
Beyond her professional achievements, Martha was an adventurous spirit who took great pride in her skills as a 4-wheel beach driver. Her love for the sea was evident in her active participation in numerous fishing tournaments.
Martha's strength and courage were most profoundly demonstrated in her battle against cancer. She faced the illness with unwavering determination and grace, never giving up hope.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, JB Edwards; her parents, Grady and Monteria Thomas; and her brother, Rodney Thomas. Martha is survived by her sister, Linda Perry. She also leaves behind a loving niece, Chanin Bunting, and her nephews, Berkley Perry, Quint Thomas, and Todd Thomas.
In accordance with Martha's wishes, no services will be held. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Outer Banks SPCA.
Martha will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her compassionate heart, and her lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
