It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Martha Louise Flanagan, née Greeson, on July 19, at Community Hospice of Fernandina Beach, Florida, after a long battle with cancer.
Marty was born on February 21, 1948 in Calhoun, Georgia, to Troy Greeson and Louise Fletcher Greeson. She grew up in northwest Georgia and Jacksonville, FL, where she graduated from Englewood High School in 1966. Residing in Nassau County since 1974, most of her career was spent supporting medical care in physician offices and in hospital settings at Humphreys Memorial Hospital and Baptist Medical Center Nassau.
She was a devout Christian and a longtime member of Duval Station Baptist Church, where she found joy in fellowship, faith and in supporting the mission of her son, Pastor Jimmy Flanagan. Marty was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She had a passion for volunteering for those in need, reading, and keeping the wild birds in her yard well-fed.
Marty is survived by her children Jimmy Flanagan (Belinda) of Yulee, FL, Troy Flanagan (Chad Wykle) of Fernandina Beach, FL, her grandchildren Keith Flanagan (Hannah) of Billings, MT, and Grace Vroman (Zach) of Kingsland, GA, her great-grandchildren Calvary Vroman and Tate Flanagan, her brother Jackie Greeson, and her former husband and life-long friend Jim Flanagan. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. With heartfelt gratitude, we thank Belinda Flanagan for her faithful and compassionate care, a reflection of God's love in Marty's final days.
She was preceded in death by her father Troy Greeson, mother Louise Thompson, stepfather Charlie Thompson, sister Judy Greeson, and life-long friend and sister-in-law Betty Hopper.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Marty's life will be held on Thursday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m., at Duval Station Baptist Church (13734 Lyle Rd., Jacksonville, FL), with Brother Frank Camarotti officiating. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at 10:00 a.m., with a lunch following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
Martha will be interred at a later date at Bosque Bello Cemetery in a private service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Duval Station Baptist Church Building Fund in Marty's memory (https://www.duvalstationbaptist.com/give).
Marty's warmth, generosity, and optimism will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.
