Mrs. Martha "Ann" Carper Geddie, 84, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in Stanley, North Carolina. Born on August 11, 1941, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Ann was the daughter of William Hudson and Mary Alice Turman Carper. She grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she attended Broughton High School. Her academic journey continued at St. Mary's College and Meredith College in Raleigh, where she cultivated a lifelong love of learning and the arts. Ann married Edgar McPhail (Mac) Geddie, Jr., with whom she shared a devoted marriage of 62 and a half years. Together they raised two daughters: Mary Kathryn Geddie Bridges (Phillip) and Susan Lee Geddie Allen (Eric). Ann's legacy continues through her five grandchildren - Morgan McPhail Bridges Kennemur (Will), Phillip Hudson Bridges, Winston Nicholas Bridges, Sarah Geddie Allen, and Michael McPhail Allen. One great-grandson, James McPhail Kennemur. After dedicating many years to raising her daughters, Ann began a professional career at the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her intelligence and diligence were evident in all aspects of her life-from her work to her creative pursuits. Ann was a gifted artisan whose hands were rarely still. She was an accomplished lace maker with a special talent for bobbin lace. Her knitting needles were always busy with new projects; she was also a prolific cross-stitcher and an avid quilter. A skilled seamstress with an eye for detail and design, Ann created beauty in every stitch. Her love of reading was equally enduring-she always had a book nearby and delighted in recommending favorite authors to others. She is also remembered by her twin sister Lily Susannah Carper Strickland (Roger), sister-in-law Bonnie Carper, sister-in-law, Kathryn Ward Geddie, brother-in-law, Donald Thomas Geddie (Sue), and many who admired her grace and intellect. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, James Turman Carper. Ann's family remembers her as a woman of deep intelligence and unwavering care-a source of strength whose presence enriched their lives immeasurably. She will be missed by many. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, gifts of love can be donated to Carolina Caring Hospice https://www.carolinacaring.org/give/ Service details: Friday, September 5, 2025 at 10 am at Salisbury National Cemetery located at 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
