Mrs. Martha Janelle Dunn Hilley, age 73, of Elberton, wife of Chick Hilley, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Janelle was born at home in the Rice Town Community of Elbert County on July 16, 1951, daughter of the late Asberry Dunn, Sr. and Sarah Helen Rice Dunn. She was a graduate of Elbert County High School and a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church. Through the years, Janelle worked as a bus driver for Elbert County as well as for the Elbert County Library. Her favorite role was being a grandma, and she was lovingly known by her grandchildren as “Momo.” Janelle loved admiring her flower beds, watching birds at her many bird feeders, and sitting on the porch gazing at the sunrise.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Wayne “Chick” Hilley; daughter, Ginger Hilley Marler and her husband Barry of Watkinsville; son, Nathan Hilley and his wife Renee of Jefferson; grandchildren: Lochlainn Marler, Orion Marler, Anna Hilley, Chloe Hilley, and Noah Hilley; brothers: Asberry Dunn, Jr. and his wife Patricia and R.L. Dunn and his wife Janice, all of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, from 10:00-10:45a.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

A celebration of Janelle’s life will follow at 11:00a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Flowers are accepted, and contributions may be made in her memory to - bestfriends.org.

"Remember me as you pass by, for as you are so once was I, and as I am, you too shall be, so prepare yourself to follow me. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, mind, body, and soul."
