Martha "Jan" Komorowski Madden, 70, of Moundsville, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at WVU Wheeling Hospital. She was born November 3, 1954, in Moundsville, a daughter of the late Stanley and Veronica (Pyrek) Komorowski. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, devoted mother, and long-time educator. Jan graduated, earning her master's degree from WVU, in which she studied Music Education. She worked in the Marshall County School system for 38 years, working 29 of those years as a Music Specialist and lastly, 9 years as Principal at Moundsville Middle School, before her retirement in 2014. Jan had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs. They were her fur babies. She advocated for animal rescues and worked on projects with animal rescues, since retirement. Surviving are her loving son, John Madden IV of Moundsville; aunt, Lillian Komorowski of Moundsville; cousins, who were raised like siblings, Mary Ellen Komorowski of Moundsville, Maria Bell-Hatcher of Bellaire, OH, Fred (Evelyn) Komorowski of Bridgeville, PA, Chenoa Miller of Moundsville, Gina (Dean) Hoops of Moundsville, Frank (Nan) Cicholski of Phoenixville, PA, Veronica (Jim) Buetel of Canton, OH, John (Jeannie) Kowal of TX, Edward Metz of Moundsville, and Monica (Steve) Masters of Moundsville. Memorial contributions may be made to: Marshall County Animal Shelter, 37 Animal Shelter Dr, Moundsville, WV 26041, in memory of Jan. Arrangements entrusted to Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, Moundsville, WV.
