Martha Jones McCoy, 84, of Hernando, MS, formerly of Florence, MS, passed away on June 18, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Martha left this life peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren and was ushered into the presence of Jesus by scripture readings and the prayers of many saints.

Martha was born on September 29, 1939, in Silver City, MS to the late Adrian and Ruby Lee Jones. She grew up in Louise, MS as a very responsible and hard-working young lady. She moved with her family to Pearl, MS in 1955. She took care of her siblings during her parents’ absence. Her father was a long-haul truck driver and her mother endured multiple periods of hospitalization. She loved girls’ basketball and as time would allow, played on the Pearl, MS high school team.

In 1958, she met and married Billy Eugene McCoy, her husband until his death in 2016. She was a faithful spouse and mother during many relocations associated with Billy’s military service. In 1969 they settled in Jackson, MS. Shortly after, she began her career at Packard Electric where she worked for 23 years. In 1978 they moved to Florence, MS. Martha taught Sunday School at Westhaven Blvd. Church of God where she was faithful to have her family in regular attendance. During her retirement she traveled and enjoyed her growing family. Martha was a wonderful cook, mother, and grandmother.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday June 22, 2024, in the chapel of Chancellor Funeral Home, 2576 Hwy 49 South, Florence, MS. The burial will be in the adjoining Garden of Memories cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Chancellor Funeral Home.

Survivors include one son, Robert McCoy (Ellen), four daughters, Cathy Parker (Bill), Donna Smith (Phil), Gail McClendon (Dan), and Vickie Spell (Wayne); a sister Patricia McClain and two brothers, Alvia Jones and Clinton Jones (Debra); eighteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband Billy McCoy and three sisters, Grace Courtney, Carolyn Haskins, and Linda Sue Jones.
