Martha Jane Phipps, known to most as Martha, was a beacon of light to all who knew her. Born on April 5, 1941, in New Albany, Indiana, she brought a unique spirit of strength, compassion, and joy to the world. Martha, a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and wife, made a significant impact on those around her. She was known for her strong work ethic, retiring from First Savings Bank as a respected bank teller. Martha's life was a living example of a quote by Aesop, "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." Her kindness was witnessed in her daily interactions, always leaving a lasting impression on those she encountered.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved parents, James and Virginia Copelin, and her cherished sister, Esther Wilson. The memory of their love and companionship continues to inspire and guide her family today.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Earl Phipps, and their two loving sons, Mark (Patricia) and Gary (Bev). She was a proud grandmother to Corey (Samantha), Brandon (Courtney), Casey, Rachel (Andrew), Jacob, and Danielle Phipps. Martha is also survived by her brothers, Lester (Lisa) and Tom (Beth), and sister, Carol (George). Their lives were greatly enriched by her unconditional love, care, and wisdom.
Visitation will be held at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home (318 East Chestnut Street, Corydon, Indiana 47112), on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm EDT and Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 9:00 am EDT. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11:00 am EDT at the same location.
To truly honor Martha's life and spirit, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos of her to the memorial page. Let us remember and celebrate this remarkable woman who touched our lives in many significant ways.
