Martha M. Schmeichel, age 93, of Huron, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord Jesus at Avantara Huron on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 with her son by her side.
At her request, no public service will be held. A private burial will be held at a later date at Prairie Bible Church Cemetery in rural Carpenter.
Martha M. (Wipf) Schmeichel was born on January 3, 1931 to Elias E. and Mary J. (Tschetter) Wipf in rural Carpenter, South Dakota. Martha was baptized at Hutterthal Church (Prairie Bible Church) in June of 1946.
She married Dan Schmeichel, Jr., on March 31, 1953. Dan passed away on March 19, 1991.
Martha is survived by her son, Kenny Schmeichel of Huron; her brother, Iky Wipf, two sisters Darlene Gaspar and Miriam Tschetter, half-sister Kathryn Nielsen and sister-in-law, Lila Hofer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Elmer, three half-sisters, Anna Decker, Mary Walters, and Rebecca Zerbel; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wipf, Bernice Wipf, Marjorie Pullman, and Mary Schmeichel; brothers-in-law Richard Decker, Andrew Walters, Joe Gross, Clinton Zerbel, James Nielsen, Alvin Pullman, Vince Gaspar, Marlan Tschetter, Joe Pullman, and Eldon Schmeichel; and a number of nephews and cousins.
