Martha M. Shulfer age 100, of Stevens Point, passed away on Monday September 30, 2024. She was born in Stevens Point to the late Frank and Rose (Schulke) Kresh. She attended local schools.
Her marriage to Chester Shulfer took place on February 19, 1944, at St. Peter Catholic Church. Martha grew up in Stevens Point, and in her younger days she did spend some time in Chicago. 100 times around the sun she traveled. Martha was an active woman during her younger years. She worked for the food service at Pal Restaurant, U/W, Cozy Kitchen and childcare services as a cook. She would walk to work everyday in the summer or take the city bus.
She was strong in her faith and would say the rosary every morning. Her children would say mom get out the beads we need your help. She raised 6 children. She led a simple life but always made things work out. Going thru the depression she held everything together. She knew what struggle was.
A walking history book she was. We all loved listening to her stories on how she grew up and what surrounded her. She had a memory sharper than a knife until the very end. Watching politics was her favorite. She would say are you watching the debate? Yes, to that response, good then we can discuss it. She knew every Senator and had her own opinion. She voted like the concerned citizen she was. She was also a very comedic women, always in for a laugh.
Her hobbies included gardening as she loved working with her flowers and being outside. She enjoyed baking, reading and word search. She also loved listening to politics, watching soap operas, cooking shows and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her daughter Pat and Dee took her under their wings as caregivers and took extremely good care of her.
Martha is survived by her children, Dee Firkus and Pat Deppe. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester in 1979, also her sons, Thomas Shulfer and Robert Shulfer. Daughters, Kathy Zurawski and Barbara Prondzinski. Sisters, Irene Wayerski and Helen Klismith. Brothers, Frank and Joe Kresh.
We would like to thank Lisa Woyak for her locality with her paperwork, Jeff and Kevin Shulfer for their thoughtfulness and kind nature. They would do anything for her. Also, INCLUSA, Sandy and Patty for your support. Lincare for all your help. ER at Aspirus St. Michaels Hospital Staff. To everyone else who climbed her stairs to her door with food, gifts, flowers, treats or just to stop in to see how she was doing. The family wants to thank each and every one of you, we were so grateful.
