Fred D. Shulfer, of Stevens Point, passed away on July 11, 2024, in the comfort of his own home, at the age of 75.
Fred was born October 10, 1948, in Stevens Point, WI; son of the late Harold T. and Georgian (Kudla) Shulfer. He grew up in the family house on Stanley street and attended local schools. His childhood years are where his love for fishing, model cars, and collecting treasures began. As he got older, he spent summers working on his uncle's farm in Amherst on Smokey Road. Once in high school, Fred worked at Bill's Pizza, a local establishment he would enjoy visiting for some pizza and hot beef his entire life. He attended Pacelli High School for two years before attending PJ Jacobs High School where he graduated in 1966.
After high school, Fred went on to work for Consolidated Papers, working in the Whiting paper mill, as a lab quality technician. Fred proudly dedicated 37 years to the company, retiring December 31, 2003. When he wasn't at work, Fred was never too far from his soul mate, Angie. On August 24, 1968, Angeline Blaskowski became Mrs. Frederick Shulfer. She was more than his wife; she was truly his "rock" and best friend. Together, they worked hard to create a beautiful life for their family. Fred's strong work ethic, his belief in families working together to achieve a goal, and being there for one another, was epic.
Fred was a true outdoorsman and jack of all trades. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, picking berries and mushrooms, and making maple syrup and firewood. Some of the blackberries he picked were even used by another local establishment he frequented; Belts! He enjoyed walks along Bukolt park and making his way there to get ice cream. Fred loved to grill out for family and friends, as well as making delicious fish fries for all to enjoy, including himself. Fred also had a passion for finding old, unloved items and bringing them back to life, so they could be appreciated once again. In his retirement, he participated in flea markets to sell his restored treasures and acquire new items to refurbish. His restoration skills extended to cars, trucks, and tractors. Above all else, Fred always enjoyed sharing time with his family, no matter the activity. His great sense of humor and storytelling abilities will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Fred is lovingly survived by his beloved wife, Angie; his children, Troy (Marcie) Shulfer, Roxanne (Phil) Mittelstaedt, and Franklin Shulfer; and his grandchildren, Cassandra Shulfer, Miranda (Ryan) Berg, Hunter Shulfer, Forrest Shulfer, Nathan Mittelstaedt, and Anthony Mittelstaedt. He is further survived by his brother, Patrick Shulfer; and his sisters, Sue (Terence) Gardner and Sherry (Kenneth) Pavelski.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Harold T. Shulfer and Georgian Shulfer; and his brothers, Lloyd Shulfer and Jerome Shulfer.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice, especially Breanne and Jordan, who helped take great care of Fred in his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 19, 2024, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish - 3995 County Road K, Amherst, WI. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Parish Cemetery.
