The Thomas family lived around the block from us during my childhood, and I have no memories of not knowing them. Martha and I were born 6 months apart, and she has always been a dear friend of mine, along with her sibs and parents. We went to countless parties and dances during high school, and have had innumerable good times together. Add to this the wonderful times at Liberty Lodge. And I spent many seasons working at Georgetown Laundry. Her departure fills me with nostalgia, more than a little sadness, and fond memories. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

I wanted to reach out Martha T. Smith family, friends and all those who loved her and express my deepest condolences to you all. I hope this message finds you in a moment of peace and comfort as you navigate through this difficult time.
Martha was an extraordinary person who had an incredible impact on the lives of those around her. She always showed unwavering support, cared deeply for her family, friends, and community, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
I am truly grateful to have had Martha in my life, as she was a constant source of support, kindness, and love. Her dedication to her family was remarkable, and her genuine concern for the well-being of others was truly inspiring. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
During this time of sorrow, please know that you are not alone. Lean on one another, and reach out to those who care about you. Share your memories of Martha and find solace in the joy and love she brought to your lives. She will forever be remembered for her remarkable spirit and the impact she made on this world.
If there is anything I can do to support you during this time, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am here to listen, to lend a helping hand, or simply to be a comforting presence.
Sending you all my love and deepest sympathies,
Mary Rhea Howell
