Robert Jarvis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel on Jan. 14, 2026.
Mr. Robert Arthur Jarvis of Pawleys Island, South Carolina passed peacefully on

January 3, 2026, at the age of eighty-eight. Bob lived a full and meaningful life defined

by service, leadership, and a deep appreciation for family, friendships, and life's simple

pleasures.

Born August 20, 1937, in Newport News, Virginia, Bob was the eldest of four siblings.

Growing up he naturally assumed the role of family leader, offering guidance,

dependability, and quiet strength throughout his life. Bob attended Warwick High School

and continued his education at Virginia Tech where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical

Engineering and his Professional Engineering license.

Bob devoted his professional career to public service with the Naval Sea Systems

Command where he applied his engineering expertise in support of the United States

Navy. He was respected for his integrity, reliability, and thoughtful leadership – even

quarterbacking the NAVSEA touch football team many Saturday mornings on the fields

of Washington D.C.

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed playing golf more than anything else. He had a

genuine love for the game, often spending his afternoons at the driving range when he

wasn't on the course. Over the years, he played in countless tournaments and even

recorded a few memorable holes-in-one. After retiring, he and his wife built their dream

home on the golf course at Pawleys Plantation in South Carolina. During his time at

Pawleys, Bob played the course regularly with the men's group and enjoyed a more

relaxed pace of life. From his favorite spot on his back porch, he enjoyed watching

golfers make their way to the 10 th green. He also enjoyed the occasional game of poker

with friends and took pleasure in good food, particularly oysters and fried chicken, and

music from the 50s-70s.

Bob is predeceased by his parents, Aubrey Thurston Jarvis, and Florence Myrtle

(Stevens) Jarvis. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Coursey Jarvis; his three

daughters, Kelly Marie Jarvis, Jennifer Jarvis Post (Robert Post), and Robin Angela

Jarvis; his three siblings, Paul Stevens Jarvis, Peggy Jarvis Schleicher, and Bill Jarvis;

and his six grandchildren, Benjamin Andrew Moriarty, Julia Marie Post, Liam Patrick

Moriarty, Jason Robert Post, Steven Robert Bellevue, and Paige Angela Bellevue.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, a

guiding presence to his siblings, and a man who led with quiet strength-fully

embracing a balanced and well-lived life, always finding joy in his family who made life

meaningful.

A Celebration of a Life Well Lived is planned for February 21, 2026, at the Pawleys Island Plantation clubhouse.

Bob took many a $5.00 from me in our Friday afternoon matches, it was his gas money to get from his house to the bag drop. He would fish balls from the lake and knowing what type ball I played he would bring them to me on Friday. He was a good friend and I miss waving to him on his back porch.
