is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Sue Norris (Waites), a
beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and pillar of the Talladega community,
who entered eternal rest on October 15, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born in Lepanto, Arkansas, on December 15, 1947, "Sue" was known for her kindness,
wit, love, faith, warm hospitality, and unwavering devotion to her family. She made her
home in Winterboro, Alabama, on her cherished farm that she loved. The farm wasn't
just a home; it was her heart, her peace, and the backdrop for some of the best
memories, especially the years spent raising her children. That land held everything:
family gatherings, cherished memories, weekly dinners, fruitful gardens, local
community, quiet moments, and plenty of love. She poured her heart into that land, and
in return, it gave her a life full of beauty, joy, and family. Now, her great-grandchildren
continue that tradition, running through the same fields and filling the house with the
same pleasure she cherished. From her precious time with all of her family and friends,
to sunshine pouring through the dining room windows, to the grandfather clock chiming
every hour, and more card games around that table than anyone could count, her spirit
lives on in every corner of that home.
Beyond the farm, Sue poured just as much heart and energy into her work and
community. Sue was a successful businesswoman in Talladega and the owner of
Waites Tire and Service Center for many years. She formed deep roots and lasting
friendships throughout the community. She was a familiar face and a comforting
presence, always ready with a warm smile, a funny story, or just the right thing to say. If
you needed a good laugh or a lasting memory, Sue was your go-to. She loved to travel,
made frequent flyer appearances at the casino, and never missed a family gathering if
she could help it. Sue lived with purpose and personality; she didn't just attend life; she
made an entrance. Truly one of a kind, she loved life and lived it out loud.
Her life was a testament to grace, gratitude, and faith. She attended Plainview Baptist
Church, where she was a member and found great joy in her faith and fellowship.
Known for her strength, wisdom, and unwavering optimism, she touched the lives of all
who knew her.
Sue is preceded in death by her late husband, Bobby Waites, her siblings, Lee Mills,
Earl Mills, and Jeanette Mills, and her nephew, Jeremy Mills.
Sue was and is survived by her husband, Fancher Norris; Siblings Bertha Lacosse,
