Martha Ione Walker was born in
Romeo, Michigan on August 14th 1940 to the union of Alfred Howard Cobb and Ione Selena Brooks and was the youngest of two children. Martha enjoyed a special relationship with her older sibling Jerome. After the passing of their mother while both were very young, she and her brother moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where they were raised for a period of time by their paternal grandparents Hugh and Janie Washington.
Martha and her brother returned to Michigan where she attended and graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit. Upon entering the workforce, Martha worked as a nurse's assistant at Harper Hospital in the nursery. Soon after, Martha married her soul mate Larry Walker, in September of 1963 and began her journey as a mother and wife, raising her children with Love, Strength and dedication. Together united they had Portia Adams, Antonio Cobb, Sean Walker, Larece Jackson, and Andrea Richardson. Martha devoted her life to nurturing and protecting her children and carried herself with grace, compassion and resilience throughout her life. After taking some time off to car for her family, Martha reentered the workforce where, she was employed by Firestone and then TRW where she worked for over 20 years, until the closing of the plant.
Martha accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord. She attended church on a regular basis when younger and joined Great New Mt. Mariah Missionary Baptist Church later in life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading her Bible and Mystery Novels. She would often sit her children in a circle around her at a very young age and read to them the word of God. Martha enjoyed baking and was known for her Chocolate and Lemon pies, which she made every Thanksgiving. She would often get calls from relatives asking "did you make your pies" everyone wanted a slice of her pies. In her later years she still loved to read the Bible and enjoyed Mystery Shows and Blue Bloods.
Martha was a devoted and faithful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Even through Life's challenges, Martha demonstrated unwavering strength. She faced hardships with faith, courage and dignity, always prioritizing her family and ensuring they remained united and supported. Martha welcomed opportunities to guide, protect and uplift those she loved, and she left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.
Early on the Morning of November 1st, 2025 Martha answered the call and went home to be with her Heavenly Father. God fulfilled his unchanging commitment to our sister and called her to everlasting security: Eternal Life. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, son Sean, daughter Portia and grandson Kenny. She leaves to celebrate her legacy by her son Antonio, daughter Larece (Linden) Jackson, daughter Andrea (Robert) Richardson; grandchildren Latisha, Ashley, Vashea, Cierra, Robert, Darryl, Ileka, Tatyana, Larome, Brittany, Jasmine, Mariah, Travis, Cassandra, Michael; twenty one great grandchildren, two special nieces Sharman and Tia, two special nephews Jerry and Shawn; extended family, cousins and friends.
