Martha Elizabeth Wilkerson "Betty", beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on August 4, 1936, in Asheville, North Carolina, to the late William Cook, and Milva Tennant Cook. Betty lived a life full of compassion, joy, and service to others.
Betty dedicated over 35 years of her life as a dental hygienist, where she nurtured countless smiles and developed lasting relationships with her patients and colleagues. It was through her work that she met the love of her life, Bernie Wilkerson, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage, before his passing in 2019. Together they cultivated a warm, loving home filled with laughter, support, and endless love for their family.
A proud mother to her two daughters, Patricia Hill Smith and Pamela Hill Norman, Betty took great joy in watching her family flourish. She was a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren and a loving great-grandmother to 11 great-grandbabies, all of whom brought her immeasurable happiness and pride. Betty cherished the moments spent with her family, often instilling in them the values of kindness, hard work, and the importance of family.
An avid reader and passionate crocheter, Betty found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her green thumb transformed every garden into a paradise of blooming flowers, embodying the warmth and beauty she brought to those around her. She was a lifelong supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Betty is survived by her daughters and son in laws Maynard and Roger, her younger brother Jim Cook, and her extensive family of grandchildren Kelly (Jade), Logan (Lauren), Mason (Samantha) and Connor (Hannah). Her great-grandchildren Sara, Loren, Jack Clay, Nash, Emorie, Elizabeth, Joshua, Easton, Hampton, Eleanor and Grady, all of whom will carry her memory forward in their hearts.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on May 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel, with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM.
As we gather to honor Betty's remarkable life, we remember her unwavering spirit, loving nature, and the countless lives she touched along her journey. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries (NCM), an organization that embodies the spirit of compassion and community that Martha valued so deeply.
