Martin Bilowich
December 29, 1935 -April 19, 2024

Martin Bilowich, a dedicated mechanical engineer whose illustrious career spanned over 45
years, sadly passed away on April 19, 2024. Born on December 29, 1935 in Butler, PA, Martin
leaves behind a legacy of hard work, innovation, and passion for his profession.

Martin’s professional journey was nothing short of extraordinary. After a few years with other
engineering firms, he devoted many years to Economy Mechanical Industries, where he
showcased his expertise as a project manager for many prominent projects. These included the
United Airlines terminal and offices, Sara Lee, the State of Illinois building, the John Hancock
building, the Northwestern University Power Plant, Fiber Glass Towers in Toledo, Ohio, the
Deep Tunnel Project, and the Sears Tower. He was responsible for fabrication of all the piping
for Sears Tower. His career at Economy culminated as the Vice President of their Wastewater
Treatment Division. His contributions did not end there. After leaving Economy, Martin also
lent his skills to Great Lakes Plumbing and Heating and TEAM Mechanical Industries.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Martin Bilowich was known for his love of
woodworking and gardening. These hobbies offered him a creative outlet where he could bring
his ideas to life and connect with nature. He loved his dog Cagney and took her for walks and
rides in the car everyday. Martin was a 60 year member of Landmark Masonic Lodge. He was
also a proud veteran whose dedication to his country was evident both in and out of uniform.
His commitment to excellence and service was unwavering throughout his life.

In his personal life Martin cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his loving wife
of 63 years, Elaine Bilowich, their son Marty Bilowich (Patty), grandchildren Joey Bilowich and
Elena Bilowich, sister Jeanette (the late Steve) Ference, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and
many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Vikki Bilowich and his
brother Edward Bilowich (Shirley).

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Emerald Place Memory Care, the
Guardian and ALC Hospice groups, and family and friends for all their love and support.

A memorial service will be held at St. Philip Lutheran Church (1609 Pfingsten Road, Glenview)
on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11 AM. Gathering and visiting will start at 10 AM. Following the
service, everyone is invited for a luncheon at Hackney’s (1514 E. Lake Avenue, Glenview).
In his memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Philip Lutheran
Church.
