Martin "Marty" Joseph Drake, a resident of the Spokane, WA area passed away on Aug. 4, 2024 in Spokane due to injuries received from an automobile accident. Marty was born in Spokane, WA on June 6, 1973, the son of Laura Ann Brouillard and Dale Martin Drake.
Marty was raised in Colville, WA where he attended school. He was a soul always in search of himself and the experiences of life that were just up around the next bend. He drove truck and had rolled through every state in the continental U.S. with a hop to Hawaii, not too long ago. Marty often stated that he began his working career in retirement and lived with the freedoms he could only enjoy in his youth. He chose to live his life like a nomad, his free spirit leading the way and his charm and luck kept him rolling. Marty spent his earnings quickly, chasing dreams and living fast. His choices were not without consequence and they eventually took his health from him. No matter where he was in his journey, he had the love of his family. Marty found joy on his grandparent's farm where he spent a summer working for his Aunt and found retreat and respite in working the land.
Marty enjoyed the countless miles he travelled in life. He loved to pause in his journey long enough to cast a line and wait for the nibble of unknown treasure that he could reel in from the banks of rivers, shoreline of lakes and beaches of the ocean. He was a baseball fan and when able, would warm the bleachers of major league baseball games where ever he might be. Marty had a heart for others and enjoyed festive times and lively gatherings. He was loved and worried over daily as he wondered this life. He will be missed. His smile, sense of humor, kindness and free spirit will be reflections that shine eternally from the hearts of those he loved.
Marty was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He is survived by his three children: Karissa, Dylan and Maddy; grandchildren Sahara and Brielle; parents, Laura Brouillard (Ray) of Las Vegas, NV, Dale Drake (Donna) of Kettle Falls, WA; sister, Firnichie Reynolds (Geoff) of Chewelah, WA; step-siblings, Justin Meier (Michelle) of Albany, OR, Lindsey Ochoa-Miller of Bend, OR, and a host of extended family.
Martin "Marty" J. Drake will be laid to rest privately with family at the Fairmont Cemetery in Spokane, WA.
Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Marty at your favorite fishing hole, give a cast in his memory and remember it was there that he found peace.
Danekas Funeral Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
