Martin Carl Kazimir, a longtime resident of Fishkill, NY and formerly of West Sand Lake, NY and Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 8, 2024. He was 79.
Son of the late Carl and Helen (Turek) Kazimir, he was born in Yonkers, NY on August 19, 1945. He graduated from Bordentown Military Institute High School in 1963. In 1964, Martin enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged from active service in 1968 and then continued as a Reservist until 1970.
Throughout his professional career, he worked as a journeyman ironworker and belonged to the Local 40 Ironworkers in New York City. He was tasked with aiding in the recovery effort immediately following the World Trade Center attack on 9/11. Martin retired in 2002. Following his retirement, he spent many years serving as a funeral attendant for Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes, Inc. He was also an ordained Deacon and served the parish of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
Martin was a volunteer firefighter for Best Luther Fire Co. in West Sand Lake and member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's Council #4065 in Fishkill. He enjoyed bicycling and formerly belonged to the Fishkill Bicycle Club. He was a skilled archer and received several awards for his accomplishments at competitions and other events.
On February 14, 1987, he married Margaret "Peggy" Eagan at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. Peggy survives at home.
Additional survivors include his son, Christopher Kazimir & his wife Nikki; his granddaughter, Hope Kazimir; his stepson and "right hand man", John Birch, Jr. & his girlfriend Marisol; his stepdaughter, Deborah Stanco & her husband John; his stepson, Howard Birch & his wife Angie, who was one of his many co-caretakers; his brother-in-law, Russell Eagan & his wife Jackie, who provided transportation to the hospital; his grandchildren: Jennifer Sipes & her husband Robert, John Birch III, Lauren Stanco, John Stanco, Mitchel Stanco, Howard R. Birch, Jr., Grace Birch, and Michael Birch; his great-grandchildren, Kyla-Jo and Mila-Lee; his sister, Kathleen Kazimir; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
Martin was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Kazimir, in 1986. He was also predeceased by two infant daughters, Kimberly Ann and Wilma Kazimir.
Private services were previously conducted with interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
