Marty Levin – always Marty, not Martin, please. "Martin" only when you're mad at him. He was funny, in a dad-joke kind of way. Marty was a wonderful father, husband, brother, and uncle. But most of all, he was kind and generous and open-hearted and loving. His daughter, writing this obituary, wishes you all got to know him, because, man, you sure would have liked him a lot.
Marty grew up in Northbrook, IL, then went to school at MIT, studying computer science, eventually co-founding a medical software company where he worked for the rest of his career. Early in college, he met Carol, the love of his life – they were married for 53 years.
He was an avid tennis player, a member of Sudbury River and Wayside tennis clubs, and he enjoyed a round of golf or two each week in the summer. A longtime member of the Hale Bird Club, Marty often planned its outings all around New England, from Machias Seal Island (yes, puffins) to Newport, Rhode Island. With Massachusetts Audubon Society, he and Carol traveled the world, setting foot on every continent, including Antarctica. He loved (which sometimes means hating) the Red Sox and knew every statistic there was to be known about them. When not outdoors, he was a player of piano, a history buff, and an expert on all kinds of trivia.
Marty, who passed away suddenly on March 30, is survived by a whole host of people who are heartbroken at his loss, including me, his daughter Danielle; his wife Carol; his sister Susan and brother-in-law Michael; nieces and nephews Denise, Jason, Rob, and Michelle; and their kids: Hallie, Tallulah, Alex, Ethan, Owen, and Adrienne.
A memorial service will be planned later this year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Massachusetts Audubon Society. (https://web.massaudubon.org/site/Donation2?idb=2001388792&df_id=3069&mfc_pref=T&3069.donation=form1&;3069.donation=form1)

Through the years I have enjoyed playing Tennis, golf, and poker with Marty. He was always hard to beat because he he was mentally tough as well as physically gifted. Regardless of the outcome, we always savored the conversation afterwards. He was one of the really good people you meet in life.

I don´t think I can remember a single time I was with Marty when I didn´t laugh and smile. That is why I always loved being around Marty. It´s still hard for me to imagine birding without him.

Marty, Carol, Michael Kearns and I all went out
And for years Marty kept the stub of that show in his wallet as a reminder of a wonderful beginning. With that show at mit freshman year...he and Carol went on to enjoy many happy years but it is so hard to say goodbye!!! Jeanette
