Daniel B. Hanson

Daniel Benjamin Hanson, age 36, passed away after a lengthy illness on January 13, 2026. Born and raised in Danville, New Hampshire, Daniel later made his home in McLean, Virginia, while remaining closely connected to his family and New England roots.

Daniel valued education deeply. He attended Calvary Christian School in Derry, New Hampshire, graduating as Valedictorian, and went on to Grove City College, where he triple majored in Economics, Politics, and Philosophy. He later pursued postgraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Known for his sharp intellect, thoughtful conversation, and dry wit, Daniel cared deeply about others and believed strongly in inclusion, dignity, and understanding. He was generous with his time, enjoyed international travel, and was known for hosting gatherings that brought people together. He had a fondness for Friends, a lifelong affection for Elmo, and a deep love for manatees, which he supported through conservation efforts.

Raised in the Christian faith, Daniel's family takes comfort in the belief that he is now at peace in heaven with Jesus.

Daniel is survived by his parents, Loralyn (Kimball) Hanson and Douglas Hanson of Sandown, New Hampshire; his sisters Kristina Wagnitz, Jaclyn Freeman, and Mindy Moutoux and their families; and his brother Joshua Stone and his husband. He was a beloved uncle to three nephews and four nieces.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday January 31, 2026 from 10 - 11:30am in the Calvary Bible Church, 145 Hampstead Rd, Derry, NH with funeral services to begin at 11:30am. Burial will be in the Spring in Center Cemetery, Danville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for manatee conservation.
