Martin "Chip" Olson III, a cherished husband, devoted father, and passionate CB radio enthusiast, passed away on June 24, 2024, in Bakersfield, California, after a valiant battle with Stage Four Kidney Cancer. Born on January 19, 1966, in Elgin, Illinois, Chip was a man whose vibrant spirit and can-do attitude left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Chip spent his formative years in Fox River Grove, Illinois, where he was raised by his parents, the late Martin J. Olson Jr. and Lorraine B. Olson. His childhood was filled with memories and experiences that would shape his lifelong interests and career. After completing his education, Chip ventured into entrepreneurship, which led him to become the respected owner of Hi Pro Radios Inc. in Bakersfield, California. His professional journey also included successful tenures as the previous owner of Radio Shop Supply in San Diego, California, and CNC Electronics in Hampshire, Illinois. Chip's passion for Ham and CB radios was more than just a hobby; it was a way of life. His exceptional knowledge and skill in selling and repairing radios earned him a reputation as a go-to expert in the field. For over three decades, Chip's dedication to his craft provided a vital service to the communication community.
When Chip wasn't working, he enjoyed fishing, working on classic cars, traveling and he was a true foodie! Chip was a master at the BBQ, and nobody could make a rub, sauce or smoke pulled pork like he could. He enjoyed sharing his love of food with friends and family. Chip's passion for all the things he enjoyed was only surpassed by the love he had for his family.
Chip's heart belonged to his beloved wife of 33 years, Christine Olson, with whom he built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, their bond only strengthening with each passing year. His pride and joy was his son, Martin "Marty" Olson IV, whom he raised to carry on his legacy of kindness, love of cars and ingenuity. Chip was a mentor and a role model, instilling in Marty the values that he held dear. Those who had the privilege of knowing Chip will remember him as a brilliant man who could fix just about anything. His resourcefulness was remarkable, and his willingness to lend a hand to those in need was a testament to his generous spirit. As we remember Chip, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Chips Life will be held at a later date. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to the family directly.
