Martin Michael Pilcic
Rosewood Heights - Martin Michael Pilcic passed away at 7:35 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2026 at Christian Hospital Northeast at age eighty seven due to complications from metastatic lung cancer and heart disease.
Marty was born to Patricia (Pava) Cavic Pilcic and John Pilcic on Aug. 30, 1938 at Granite City Hospital.
Marty grew up in Madison and Granite City and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated January 1957 from Granite City High School. Marty studied Real Estate at Lewis and Clark College and other locations.
Marty and Karen Sue Ellis were married eighteen years. Marty married Bonita Kay Hamilton Springman on Nov. 20, 1976 in Godfrey and Bonnie Passed away on May 16, 1997 in Arizona. Marty married Charlotte Jean Brown Flatt Dec. 31, 2003 at the Wood River Wedding Chapel. Marty and Charlotte Jean met while taking swing dance lessons at the Wood River Round House.
As a teenager, Marty worked for Perfection Vault Company. He later worked as a draftsman for Century Electric and as a chainman for Granite City Steel. Marty became a real estate salesman in 1969 and an Illinois real estate broker in 1973. He served on the Board of Realtors and the Membership and Ethics committees. Marty and Bonita owned a Wausau Homes business in Hamel and constructed many homes with the help of his son Jon Michael. Marty and Bonnie left the Illinois business and moved to Arizona. Marty, again, worked as a real estate broker and was a maintenance supervisor on several different apartment complexes. He began working for AIMCO in 1989 and transferred to St. Louis in 1998. Marty and Bonnie met at work and worked together 21 years, receiving many awards. Marty was a manager of Vallow Outlet Carpet Store from 1999 to 2005 when he became a landlord. Marty was a leader and taught many various skills to others.
Survivors include his wife; his son, Jon Michael Pilcic and his wife, Sheila Marie Pilcic of Rosewood Heights; a brother, Benjamin Pilcic and his wife Sandy Pilcic of Bunker Hill; stepsons, Joseph Lee Flatt and his wife Sheri Lynn Flatt of Glen Carbon and Shaun Aaron Flatt and his wife Amie Jo Flatt of Rosewood Heights; Jeffrey Springman, Sr. and his wife Dusty Springman of Carrollton, IL; grandson, Christopher Michael Pilcic and his wife Jennifer Antoinette Pilcic of Plano, TX; step grandchildren, Ethan Todd Flatt of Chicago, IL and Avery James Flatt of Glen Carbon and Evett Leeroy Flatt of Rosewood Heights; and Olivia Madisyn Dooling and Ryleigh Grayce Franklin of Bethalto, Christina Reynolds and her husband Jerry Reynolds of Alton, Jeffrey Springman, Jr. of Hartford, Billy Springman and Nicole Middleton and her husband Deizel of Carrollton; great grandchildren, Addison Marie Pilcic, Carson Theodore Pilcic, Emerson Ann Pilcic, and Bryson Michael Pilcic of Plano, TX; step great grandson Kaynaan Springman of Hartford, and Oaklyn and Everleigh Middleton of Carrollton.
Marty was a member of the First Family Church of Illinois in Wood River with Raymond "Buddy" Manley as his Pastor. Marty was baptized at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Madison on Sept. 25, 1938 and once again at the Pontoon Beach Church of Christ on Feb. 2, 1958. He served as an altar boy at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Mitchell. Marty and Pastor Buddy had a very close friendship, studying the bible together a couple times each week.
Marty was very compassionate toward others and always lifted a helping hand. He said work was his hobby. He enjoyed gardening, swing dancing, word games, and construction.
Those deceased before Marty were his parents; his wife Bonnie; brother John Pilcic; sister Barbara Bailey and brother-in-law Larry Bailey; and infant stepson, Michael Jason Flatt.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at Paynic Home for Funerals, 618 East Airline Drive, Rosewood Heights, IL. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Following the graveside service, a memorial and luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at Faith Family Church of Illinois, 78 E. Jennings Ave. in Wood River.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that a memorial donation be made to Faith Family Church of Illinois,
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to a local hospice.
