Martin "Marty" Shields, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024, in Greenville, SC, at 89. Born on April 16, 1934, in Queens, NY, Marty was a man whose life was characterized by love, kindness, and thoughtfulness.

Marty was the beloved husband of Ruth Shields, with whom he shared 61 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and countless memories. He was a devoted father to his sons, Martin Shields married to Stacey, and Matt Shields, married to Kristina. Marty took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Matthew, Kailey, Aidan, Matthew, Nicholas, Jason, and Ryan.

Predeceased by his parents, Nora and Martin Shields, and his sister, Eileen Kelly, Marty's legacy of love and warmth lives on through his family and all who knew him.

Marty served his country with honor as a U.S. Veteran, a period of his life that instilled a deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Those who knew Marty will fondly remember his passion for life's simple pleasures. He often walked around downtown Greenville, where he enjoyed engaging with the community.  Marty loved going to the movies, where he would lose himself in the magic of the silver screen.

A lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and NY Giants.  His evenings were often spent savoring a glass of wine or a good cigar, as he listened to the powerful and emotive voice of Andrea Bocelli, one of his favorite musicians.

Marty's presence was a gift to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt. Yet, the memories he created, and the love he shared, that he had will continue to be celebrated by all fortunate enough to have known him.

As we bid farewell to Martin "Marty" Shields, we take solace in the knowledge that he had a life well-lived. His story does not end here, for he lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. Marty's journey was one of joy, companionship, and unwavering kindness, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
