Marvella Grace Ratzlaff, 93, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025 at Pine Village. She was born on December 7, 1931 in rural Inman, Kansas, to Frank and Bertha (Gaeddert) Penner.
She graduated from Inman High School with the class of 1950. Marvella later earned her bachelor's in nursing at Bethel College after receiving training at Bethel Deaconess School of Nursing in Newton.
Marvella was united in marriage to Marlan "Lefty" Ratzlaff on May 23, 1956.
She worked as a registered nurse at Bethel Deaconess Hospital and briefly at Newton Medical Center.
Marvella was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Christian in Moundridge, where she was very involved with the social committee, library committee, Women's Friendship Circle and flower committee. Marvella was creative and artistic from an early age. She enjoyed oil painting, sewing, decorating, and garden design. She was an active member of the Study Club in Moundridge.
She is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Lefty Ratzlaff of Moundridge; six children, Michael Ratzlaff of North Newton, Jodi (Brent) Watkinson of Merriam, Susan (Glenn) Spencer of Faucett, MO, Gail (Mike) Lorson of Hope, and twins, James (Karen) Ratzlaff of Moundridge and Jerome (Jessica) Ratzlaff of Perry; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Marvella was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Milferd Penner; and sister, Rachel Schmidt.
Cremation is planned with celebration of life services to be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the First Mennonite Church of Christian. Private inurnment will be held at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Mennonite Church of Christian or Pine Village in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
