Velma Rubena Unruh

Velma Rubena Unruh, 88, of Galva, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at her home. She was born on January 16, 1937 in Newton, Kansas, to Peter P. and Marie (Ratzlaff) Penner.
She became a member of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church in May of 1952.
Velma graduated from Inman High School with the class of 1955. She has lived in rural Galva since 1957, moving there from Inman.
Velma was united in marriage to Ervin J. Unruh on October 30, 1957. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1997.
She was a devoted homemaker, an avid reader and writer, and loved bird watching.
Velma is survived by her sons, Lindon Unruh (Ingrid Webster) of McPherson, Jerridan (Carol) Unruh of Newton, Brantley (Michelle) Unruh of Galva, and Delton (Denise) Unruh of Galva; daughter, Melanie Unruh of Galva; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Kermit Unruh and Dale Jantzen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Lavina Havens, Elda Jantzen, Mary Ratzlaff, Anna Duerksen, Lena Schmidt, and Hulda Androes; and brothers, Dave Penner and Henry Penner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the United Center Mennonite Church, Galva. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, at the Moundridge Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to United Center Mennonite Church in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
