March 1, 1934 – June 6, 2025
Lafayette: Born on March 1, 1934, in Jeanerette, Louisiana, to the late Harrison Colar and Eva "Young" Colar. As a faithful Christian, he was a member of First Jerusalem Baptist Church, Located in Jeanerette, Louisiana under the auspices of Pastor Alexander. He peacefully departed this life on Friday, June 6, 2025.
A proud native of Jeanerette and a longtime resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, Marvin graduated from Jeanerette Colored High School in 1953. He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. After his military service, he pursued higher education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he majored in Education. In 1973, he earned his master's degree and dedicated his professional life to shaping young minds as an educator in the Lafayette Parish School System until his retirement. Marvin's life was one of service, love, and strength. He not only was an educator, but his heart also went out to ensure his students furthered their education and life skills. He was passioned about equality and pressing toward the mark.
Marvin will be remembered for his gentle spirit, enduring dedication, and the legacy he leaves behind in the hearts of his family. He is lovingly survived by his devoted nieces: Iris Lynn Colar-Vaughn, Brenda S. Colar-Johnson, Caren Colar-McNary, Juanita Colar Summers, Cheryl D. Colar-McKenzie (Dallas, TX), Marcia A. Colar-King; his nephew, David W. Colar; Joseph Hebert, Mary Dell Colar, Loving Sister-in-Law, "more like a sister" as well as a host of other nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and cherished friends throughout the country.
He is now reunited in eternal rest with his beloved wife, Anna Grace Colar; his parents, Harrison and Eva Colar; his sisters, Allegra Lynn, Iris Lynn, and Laura M. Colar; and his brothers, Gladstone, Calvin, Henry, Larry, and Harold Colar. Karl Bryant Siner, Stepson.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
