Marvin Cunningham

Marvin Cunningham departed this life on December 23, 2025. He was born on

July 25, 1947 in New York, New York to the late Major Cunningham and Frances

Atkins Cunningham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one

sister, Joann Mattocks, and four brothers, John, Billy, Oscar, and Arthur

Cunningham.

Marvin had a special calling over his life being led into ministry and he humbly

accepted. He pastored at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Abbeville, SC and

New Prospect Baptist Church in Townsville, SC. Marvin ministered the Word

every chance that arose and when he was led to. Marvin had his faith through

every challenge and obstacle that came his way.

Marvin held various jobs including construction, truck driver, mechanic,

maintenance, and a custodian. He retired from Ryobi/TTI as a receiving clerk.

Marvin was considered a car enthusiast having owned many make and models of

cars and trucks, but his favorite of all time was a Buick LaSabra. He enjoyed

bowling, baseball, studying the Bible, and fellowshipping with others. Marvin was

a life long LA Dodgers Baseball fan and quite often he was seen wearing LADodgers' attire.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jo Scott Cunningham; two sons,

Christopher S. Cunningham of Anderson, SC and Joseph M. Cunningham of

Honea Path, SC; a daughter Marcy Cunningham Fant of Anderson, SC; two

sisters, Virginia DuBois of Honea Path, SC and Joyce Bailey of Brooklyn, NY;

one brother Jerry Cunningham of Honea Path, SC; four grandchildren,

Paisley E. Cunningham of Hodges, SC, Jenesis Z. Cunningham and William T.

Fant of Anderson, SC, and Tierra N. Stewart (Major) of Iva, SC; three

great-grandchildren, Natalie, Nicholas, and Gabriella Stewart of Iva, SC; and a

host of relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held Sunday December 28, 2025, 2:00P.M. Pine Grove Baptist Church.
