Marvin W. Doerr, 90, of Springfield, formerly of Petersburg and Havana, passed away with his wife by his side at 9:15 a.m., on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He was born January 4, 1936, in Knox County, Nebraska, to John and Emma (Anders) Doerr. He married Lillian Shermer on June 9, 1957, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska.

Mr. Doerr is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Springfield; five children: Julie (Virgil) Farnen, Dan (Carie) Doerr, Rhonda Wessel, Darla (David) Ridenour, and Dellis (Jessica) Doerr; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Harlan Doerr, Norris Doerr, Harold Doerr, Myron Doerr, Dennis Doerr; three sisters: Dorothy Liibbe, Fern Kremier, and an infant sister; three grandchild sons: William, Salvatore and Daniel Doerr; as well as son-in-law, Tim Wessel.

Mr. Doerr was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg, IL. He enjoyed vacations in Minnesota where he loved to go boating and fishing. One of his favorite vacation spots was Colorado and snow skiing. He also had his pilots license and enjoyed flying. He always looked forward to traveling home to Nebraska and spending time with his family. While there he could be found in the fields with his brothers. He loved living in an agricultural community where he enjoyed occasionally hitching a ride in a combine with local farmers. He especially enjoyed family reunions and making homemade ice.

After leaving Nebraska Mr. Doerr and his family lived in Renton, WA where he worked at Boeing as an inspector. Then they were off to Indianapolis, IN where he attended and graduated with honors from Indiana College of Mortuary Sciene. He took his first job at a funeral home in Danville, IL. Mr. Doerr and his family then moved to Havana in 1965 where he owned and operated Doerr Memorial Home. During his 43 years as a mortician and funeral director he also worked at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana and also managed Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg until his retirement in 2004.

Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, in Havana, on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Petersburg, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, in Petersburg, following the services. Rev. Jeffery Gross will officiate.
