Marvin Hackett, 92, Minot, ND, formerly of Glenburn, ND, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Marvin Walter Hackett was born August 19, 1932, the son of Walter and Bertha (Wenzel) Hackett, in Eckmann, ND. He was raised and educated in Sioux Falls, SD until 1945, when he moved with his family to Glenburn, ND.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard in January 1951. He was honorably discharged in December 1952.
Marvin married Inez E. Hjelmeland June 21, 1953, in Landa, ND. They made their home and raised their six children in Stanley, Mohall and Glenburn, before settling in Minot in 1990.
Marvin worked for Kewitt Construction on the Minot Air Force Base for a time. He then went to work for Chevron Oil until his retirement.
He was also an accomplished carpenter who did finish work and built several homes.
He served on the Glenburn City Council, Hope Lutheran Church Council, established the Glenburn Horseshoe Club and was inducted into the North Dakota Horseshoe Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Glenburn American Legion.
His loving family includes: wife of 72 years, Inez Hackett; children, Cyndi (Bill) Underwood, Grant "Pete" Hackett (Donna Steinhaus), Margo (Bruce) Haskins, Melanie (Jeff) Miller, Norris (Marlys) Hackett, and Marsha (David) DesLauriers; grandchildren, Kelly (Mark) Culp, Bret (Jamie) Underwood, Craig (Heather) Underwood, Jesse (Katie) Underwood, Jessica (Craig) Fricke, Derek (Kelly) Hackett, Rachel (David) Schneider, Megan (Jeff) Davison, Jamie (Reginald) Williams, Brittany (Jacob) Bratsch, Jacqueline Miller, Brooke (Lance) Norlin, and Kelsy (Ryan) Sys; 31 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Roger (Elaine) Hackett; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Alice Wickman.
Funeral: Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, April 7, from 5 to 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Homeless Coalition, Trinity Homes "Memory Care Unit", or to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
