Marvin Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legends Tri County Funeral Home on Mar. 26, 2025.
Marvin LaRue Hall Jr (1941–2025)
It is with profound sadness that the family of Marvin "Doc" Hall announce his passing. He was a loving brother, father, friend, and Miss Betty's "Sweetie." He passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025 at the age of 83.
Born on November 17, 1941 in Pensacola, FL, Doc was known for being mechanically inclined. He could build a crystal radio or tear apart a motor scooter, put it back together again (with extra parts thrown in a box), and end up with a running scooter!
Doc will be lovingly remembered by his sweetheart of many years, Miss Betty Hilton; his children Elizabeth (Allen), Marvin, Anne (Ferlin); his grandchildren, Ashley, Kori, Jonathan (Marisa), Amanda, and Ben; and his great-grandchildren, Bentley, Izabelle, Evelyn, and Thorin; his sister, Dorothy "Dee" (Cecil), along with numerous other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Anna; sister, Ramona; brother, Joe; and infant daughter, Amy.
Doc had multiple careers during his lifetime. He started out as a corpsman in the United States Navy, hence the nickname "Doc." He also worked as a lab tech, owned a dive & salvage company, was a boat captain, and owned another business servicing and repairing computers and arcade machines. For many years, he always had a faithful companion by his side, most notably "Tuffy" (a part basset hound, part pekingese mix) and later "Boudin" (a Louisiana Catahoula). He rarely went anywhere without his side-kick, including dive jobs.
Doc found joy in getting to know people and driving around with Miss Betty. He loved the community of SPI and Port Isabel where they would take their daily drive to visit friends and their favorite dinner spots. When asked how he ended up in Port Isabel, he said he made a "short visit" to deliver a boat and never left!
A Celebration of Life will be held at:
The Chapel by the Sea [33425 State Park Rd 100, South Padre Island, TX 78597]
Saturday, March 29, 2025 @ 11am
In lieu of flowers, consider taking a friend or loved one out for a meal in his honor and leaving a generous tip! He & Miss Betty enjoyed places like Pirate's Landing, Divots, Joe's Oyster Bar, and Bayside Cafe. He was all about quality time with people and sharing a meal.
Casual attire, please! Doc would have worn shorts with his signature guayabera shirt.
Lastly, Doc's family is scattered across the US (from Washington, Ohio, Georgia) making this sad time extra difficult to navigate. We would like to say a heart-felt "Thank you!" to the many friends who helped him and Miss Betty in so many ways over the last few months - especially to Miss Betty's family for helping make sure dad's last days were peaceful and making it possible for her to be by his side. We would also like to thank his friend Mike, Chaplin Boughter, and the Chapel by the Sea for making this celebration possible in the place our loved one called home.
