Marvin Eugene Mefferd was born on October 19, 1938, to parents Daniel and Odelia (Bauer) Mefferd in Woodbine, Iowa. He attended country school near Woodbine. Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1958. He started his working years at a young age working as a heavy equipment operator and also helping farm east of town. He spent most of his working years in construction, most of that time as a block layer in the Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska area. Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Jane Emge in 1959 and they were blessed with seven children. He later married Marilyn Kline and they were blessed with one daughter and he gained a stepson.
Marvin enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting, especially mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed going to the casino.
Marvin died on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at his home in Council Bluffs at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 27 days.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Theresa Street; grandsons, Adam Kroll and Mark Tyler; stepson, Floyd Ruby; infant sisters, Sheila and Sharon; and brothers, Daniel, Ronald and Leslie. He is survived by his children, Beverly (Bob) Wagner of Woodbine, Iowa, Guy (Sunny) Mefferd of Louisburg, Kansas, Colleen (Gorden) Lembke of Sheffield, Iowa, Vivian (Bruce) Williams of Woodbine, Michelle Rains of Arion, Iowa, Veronia (Marty) Nelson of Dunlap, Iowa and Lois (Jimmy) Stockton of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob Mefferd of Dunlap, Virgil Mefferd of Battle Creek, Iowa, Bernadine Behm of Winterset, Iowa, Marlene Schumann of Battle Creek, Iowa and Linda Thomson of Marcus, Iowa; sister-in-law, JoAnn Mefferd of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
