Marvin Meyer, 85 of Humboldt, passed away on Saturday evening, August 9, 2025 at his home in Humboldt with his family by his side.
Marvin was born June 26, 1940 in Hampton, Iowa, the son of Tom and Ella (Richtsmeier) Meyer. He attended Maysville Country School south of Hampton and in the seventh grade moved with his family to Corwith. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church and graduated from Corwith High School in 1958. He enlisted in the National Guard and served from 1962 until 1968. On December 8, 1962 He married Linda J. Kubly at Zion Lutheran Church in Lu Verne. The couple made their home near Lu Verne, and later near Renwick where they farmed. Marvin had a private pilot’s license, and enjoyed trips snowmobiling in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He spent eleven years doing the Wheat Harvest Run, cutting wheat from Texas to North Dakota, and making friends along the way. Marvin's love of God and sense of adventure took him on three mission trips to Guyana South America, where he helped build churches. The couple moved to Humboldt in 2003 and Marvin retired from farming in 2005. In retirement, Marvin worked for MS & Sons, MD Products, and KC Nielsen- because you couldn’t keep him out of a tractor. He enjoyed spending time at Dean’s Auto and having coffee with the guys at the Naeve mancave. Marvin was known for his unique handmade crosses, making over 2,000 of them and distributing them to countless people as an example of his faith.
Marvin is survived by his wife Linda of Humboldt, his children; Kathi Hughes of Bradenton, Florida, Jeff (Barb) Meyer of Hardy and Darin (Shelly Bottorff) Meyer of Rockwell City, grandchildren; Tyler, Zach, Austin and Mason Hughes, Lucas and Josh Meyer and Kaitlyn and Brianna Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian, sister Evelyn Kappel, twin brother Merlin Meyer and his father and mother-in-law Bud and Jane Kubly.
