Obituary of Marvin Lee Meyers
Marvin Lee Meyers, November 10, 2025, age 95. Born on June 11, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, was the son of Harry and Clara Meyers (z''l). He had four children: Andrea Lee Meyers, Michele Susan Meyers (z''l), Joel Stuart Meyers (Deborah Goldman), and Jonathan Samuel Meyers (z''l) (Jackie Meyers). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy Alexander Meyers, and Jarryd Andrew Meyers.
Originally from Chicago, Marvin dropped out of high school at age 17 to join the military. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he was stationed at Lowry Air Base in Denver. While in the military, he resumed his education earning a GED. After completing his military service, he attended the University of Denver and earned a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Special Education and Administration from the University of Denver.
Marvin began his career teaching special education in the Denver Public Schools. He later transitioned into administration, developing community programs for the handicapped. His achievements led him to serve as the Chief of the Division of Mental Retardation for the State of Colorado. Later, he moved to Pennsylvania and served as the Commissioner of State Services for the Developmentally Disabled in the Northeastern region.
Marvin, a passionate community servant, actively participated in various non-profit organizations. He served as the president of B'nai B'rith chapters in Denver and later in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he held the position of Commander of Jewish War Veterans 344 of USA and was a member of the Jewish Historical Society, the Freemasons and a lifetime associate member of Hadassah. Additionally, Marvin had a profound love for Israel, which he visited eight times including volunteering on military bases.
Upon retiring, Marvin returned to Colorado, where he dedicated himself to veterans' affairs. He served as the President of the United Veterans Committee of Colorado and spent numerous years as an unpaid lobbyist at the State Legislature. His numerous contributions were recognized by Governor John Hickenlooper with the proclamation of Marvin Meyers Day. His administrative passions extended to advocating for veterans' needs, including trips to Washington, D.C. His most significant achievements include helping establish the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimmons (https://cdhs.colorado.gov/vclc-fitzsimons), the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, and the new VA Hospital in Aurora. He and the staff at the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimmons were mutually honored to have him spend his final years there where he received exemplary care.
