Mary Lois Carson Banfield, age 86, died on November 20, 2025, at The Springs in

Lafayette, Indiana, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

Mary Lois Carson was born in Bergholz, Ohio, on August 24, 1939, the youngest of the nine children of Harold R. Carson and Harriette Pearl (Anderson) Carson. Following her graduation from Springfield High School in Amsterdam, Ohio in 1957, she enrolled at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, where she received her Batchelor's degree in History and English. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

On August 11, 1962, she married William Scott "Bill" Banfield II, who preceded her in death in 2018. They had two children, Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Banfield and William Scott "Scott" Banfield III.

Mary worked as a Realtor for Lake Realty in Culver, Hall and Hunter Realty in Birmingham, Michigan, and Marriott Corporation in Lakeland, Florida. Her favorite job was in the Ticket Office of the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts in Naples, Florida, where she and Bill were able to enjoy many musical and theatrical performances. She served as a volunteer for Tri Kappa, Culver Girl Scouts, Culver Cub Scouts, The Culver Academies Parents Association, and the Culver-Union Township Public Library Board.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Rebecca L. Banfield of Downers Grove, Illinois; son, William Scott (Laurie) Banfield III of West Lafayette, Indiana; grandson, William Scott "Will" Banfield IV of Cleveland, Ohio; granddaughter Elizabeth A. "Ellie" Banfield of Boston, Massachusetts; sister, Bertha Carson Dill of Charleston, South Carolina; sisters-in-law Juanita Carson of Shelby, Ohio and Mary Jane Carson of Bergholz, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and friends across the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Scott "Bill" Banfield II; sisters Lela Carson (Ellis) George; Martha Carson (Lewis) Christen; Betty Carson (Paul) Moore; Sarah Carson (Warren) Haney; and Alice Carson (Thornton) Thomas; brothers John Richard "Dick" Carson and Ralph Emerson "Ike" Carson; brother-in-law Gene Dill, nephew Paul Eugene Moore, and niece Carolyn Dill Smith.

As per her wishes, there will be no services. Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to The Culver-Union Township Public Library, 107 N. Main Street, Culver, IN 46511, or The Culver Educational Foundation, 1300 Academy Road, Culver, IN 46511.
