Mary Rose Barnaby (Peebles), affectionately known as Littlemissmary, passed away on May 29, 2025, in Worcester, MA, at the age of 70. Born on November 28, 1954, in Boston, Mary was a pioneering figure in the field of appliance and refrigeration repair, a profession she excelled in and passionately shared through instruction.
Marys journey began with her early challenges and achievements. Becoming a mother at 17, she welcomed her daughter Shannon. Mary embarked on her remarkable career when she graduated from Baystate School of Appliances in 1976, entering a predominantly male field as a skilled technician at Sears. Marys tenure at Sears as a technician was followed by a brave venture in into entrepreneurship in 1989, when she took a career hiatus to focus on raising her son, Christopher, and simultaneously launched Capeway Appliance Parts in Buzzards Bay.
Her commitment to education continued as she taught appliance repair at night while earning her GED and Teaching Certificate from Umass. Mary rejoined Sears in 1993 as a Technician Manager and later returned to her alma mater, Baystate School of Technology, where she imparted her knowledge to students until her retirement in 2019.
Described by those who knew her as intelligent, accomplished, caring, compassionate, generous, and determined, Marys love for her family and friends was unparalleled. She is survived by her daughter Shannon M. Fitzhenry (and fianc Jack Grenga), son Christopher J. Barnaby (and his girlfriend Natasha Hallett), grandson Andrew Fino, sisters Ina Peebles (and her husband Perry), Kathleen Peebles, Annabelle Peebles Spencer, and Linda Fiore (and her husband Ed Fiore), her brother Michael Norman (and his wife Val) of England, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Edith and William Peebles, Marie Marinucci, and Linda and Dino Barnaby.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Marys legacy of strength, perseverance, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Mary, please visit our Tree Store.
