Mary Francis Birkenbach, 77, of Pierce City, MO, passed away on Monday morning, July 8, 2024, while at Cox South Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Mary was born on October 30, 1946 in Springfield, MO, daughter of the late James Elvin "Barney" Anderson and Byrdine Jeanette (Haile) Anderson. Growing up in Cassville, Mary graduated from Cassville High School with the class of 1964. Throughout her working years, Mary worked for several area businesses but the majority of her career was working in the office of Jumping Jacks Shoe Company and JC Penney. Mary was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and in her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and taking pictures, square dancing and traveling.
On June 23, 1972 in Monett, MO at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Mary was united in marriage to John David Birkenbach. They have been blessed with over fifty-two years of wonderful memories made together.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, John, of Pierce City; one brother, James Anderson and wife Terry, of Butterfield, MO; two sisters, Jean Whisenhunt and husband Fred, of Cassville, MO and Kay Stewart, of Purdy, MO; two sisters-in-law, Lois Hull, of Nixa, MO and Mary Spivy, of Monett; one brother-in-law, Sam Birkenbach, of Monett; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters in infancy.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City with Father Paul Pudhota officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday with Rosary service to follow at 8:00 p.m. at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Monett. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buchanan Funeral Home.
