Mary Bonner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. on Jun. 5, 2024.
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend to many, Mary Elizabeth (McGlynn) Bonner, age 67, of Staten Island, NY passed away on Sunday June 2, 2024 in the comfort of her husband and family.
Mary Beth was born on September 24, 1956 in Astoria, Queens, NY. She was the first of seven children born to the late John and Carol McGlynn.
Mary Beth attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx, NY until her Sophomore year of High School, subsequently graduating from Bethpage High School. She obtained her teaching credentials from SUNY Brockport and began her teaching career at St. Anthony's School in SoHo, NY. There she met the love of her life, Bill, who she married on November 22, 1980. They then moved to Staten Island, NY. Their lives were blessed with three children, William Jr, Kathryn, and the late Theresa.
She was a loving sister to six siblings John McGlynn (wife Karen), Mark McGlynn (wife Ann), Jean Marie McGlynn, Eileen Badolato, Thomas McGlynn, James McGlynn (wife Tina), as well as sister-in-law to Christene Fossella (husband Vincent). She was a devoted mother-in-law to Kathryn's husband Justin and William's wife Kimberly. Mary Beth enjoyed watching her 18 nieces and nephews grow up and was blessed by many of them having children of their own. Above all, she was a loving grandmother to Charlotte and Patrick Meehan.
Mary Beth enjoyed a career as a teacher until her retirement from P.S. 36. She spent time before and during her retirement volunteering at St. Joseph -St. Thomas St. John Neumann Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and coordinator of the RCIA Program. She found joy and meaning in teaching her grandchildren throughout her retirement and traveling the world with her husband and family. In her spare time, she enjoyed bird watching, exploring nature, knitting, and cooking.
She is missed more than words can describe.
Friends may pay their respects and visit with the family at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals (28 Eltingville Blvd. Staten Island, NY) on Wednesday, June 5th from 2:00 - 4:30 & 7:00- 9:00 p.m.
