Mary Louise Iglehart Bookhout passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, surrounded by family and love.
Mary Lou, as she was lovingly known, was born on March 13, 1928, in Munising, Michigan, to Gladys and Royse Iglehart. She grew up in Dallas, attended Highland Park High School, and went on to Southern Methodist University where she was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi.
On May 28, 1948, she married her college sweetheart, Jack Bookhout. The two shared 66 beautiful years together until his passing in 2014.
Mary Lou was an active and engaged member of her community. She participated in the Dallas Woman's Club, Mary K. Craig Class, Garden Study Club, and the SOS Investment Group. She was sharp with numbers, wise with her investments, and always eager to learn something new.
Mary Lou had a generous spirit and a nurturing soul. An educator at heart and a woman of thoughtful words, she poured into the lives of others with love and wisdom. She adored her family and was a truly wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. "Lou Lou" was present, encouraging and full of gentle strength.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Jack Bookhout, her brother Donald R. Iglehart Sr., son in law Neil Sisson and daughter in law Janet Bookhout.
She is survived by her children John Bookhout Jr., Peggy Sisson, Tom Bookhout and his wife Melissa, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those blessed to have been loved by her.
