Mary Jo Cahill, 78, of Fresno, California passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025. Born on October 14, 1946 in Du Quoin, Illinois, she moved to Fresno in the early 1970s and lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and creativity.
Mary Jo began her education at Sacred Heart Elementary and graduated from Du Quoin Township High School before attending Southern Illinois University. Over the years, she embraced many roles - travel agent, homemaker, school aide and, most importantly, mom. Indeed, anyone who knew her knew she lived for her kids, always putting their well-being and happiness before her own.
Mary Jo found joy in the simple pleasures: reading a good book, dancing to her favorite tunes, baking treats for loved ones, and caring deeply for animals. She had an innate curiosity and desire to connect with others, and would frequently strike up conversations with complete strangers - much to the embarrassment of her kids, her warmth and humor left lasting impressions on everyone she met.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Noelle and son-in-law Greg Saccoccio of Lancaster, CA; son Brian, daughter-in-law Cindy and grandson Conor Cahill of Gainesville, FL; brother Jim Emling of Du Quoin, IL; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, and in-laws who were touched by her kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Joanna Emling, her brother Steve Emling, and her daughter Kristin Cahill.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hotel Piccadilly located at 2305 W. Shaw Ave., Fresno, CA 93711. All who knew Mary Jo are welcome to join in honoring her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local animal shelter or pet adoption center can be made in Mary Jo's honor to celebrate the joy that pets brought to her life. Her spirit lives on through the laughter she inspired and the love she so freely gave. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
