Mary Alice Canter Tally

Mrs. Mary Canter Tally, age 65, of Todd, passed away Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Ashe County on February 17, 1960, to the late Austin Vernon and Rose Edna McGuire Canter. Mary was a very loving and caring person, known for her warmth, generosity, and devotion to her family. She worked as a truck driver with Estes Trucking and was a partnered with her husband until his passing. An exceptional crafter, she especially enjoyed quilting and creating beautiful handmade treasures for her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Spurgeon Tally, and a sister, Margaret Canter.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Woodland Cemetery in Winston-Salem, with Rev. John Elledge officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00–6:00 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Tally is survived by her son, Joseph Tally (Samantha) of Lewisville; two daughters, Michelle Carpenter (Bobby) of West Jefferson and Robin Royal (John) of Fleetwood; five grandchildren, Shannon Royal, Chasity Carpenter, Natalie Carpenter, Isabelle Royal, and Abigail Tally; and several nieces and nephews. Mary is expecting a great-grandson soon.
Flowers will be appreciated. Mary's family, friends, and all who knew her will fondly remember her kind heart, loving spirit, and exceptional creativity, which touched the lives of so many.
