Mary Capone Obituary
Mary Capone was a resilient single mother and loving grandmother. She passed away peacefully at her home on November 9th at the age of 88.
Mary was born Maria Conchetta Felice on March 22, 1937, in Queens, New York, the daughter of Maltese immigrants, Charles and Victoria Felice. As a child of immigrants, she learned English in school, quickly developing the resourcefulness and sharp intelligence that would define her life.
After a brief marriage, Mary found her greatest purpose in building a strong, independent life for herself and her daughter. She approached life with remarkable foresight and careful planning, ensuring stability and opportunity for Diane through sheer determination. She navigated challenges with perseverance and hard work.
Throughout her working years, Mary built a steady career in banking, focusing on Trust and Estates before transitioning into independent insurance work. Later in life, she enjoyed her time at Belk in Wilmington, where she formed warm connections with both coworkers and customers.
Mary did not let life's struggles keep her down. She continually strived for a better life through meticulous financial planning. Her adventurous spirit led her to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1979, where she could realize her dream of home ownership. After 17 years of building a life out west, she moved back to the east coast to be closer to family, especially her grandsons whom she loved dearly. Known for her unique blend of intuition and intelligence, she was particularly famous within her family for her uncanny knack for picking stocks, often turning a casual suggestion into a successful investment. Although she had her share of personal struggles, she was passionate about helping others less fortunate through charity work and donations to various organizations, most notably to The Sister Isaac Center here in Wilmington and Tunnels to Towers.
In her retirement years, she was able to travel, exploring many places around the globe and even participating in a half marathon in Alaska. She also volunteered at the Wilmington airport, welcoming visitors and sharing her knowledge of all that is great in the area.
Her long life was rich in wisdom, stories, and love.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles and Victoria Felice, and her fraternal twin sister, Josephine Hauk (Felice).
She is survived by:
Daughter Diane (Scott) Williams
Grandchildren: Robert Williams, Ryan Williams, and Christopher Williams (Sergeant, USMC)
