Maedrene "Mary" Carey, lovingly known as Mimi to her grandchildren, passed away on July 4, 2025, in Missouri at the age of 63. Born on August 7, 1961, in Michigan, Mary lived a bold and beautiful life-fierce in love, unapologetically herself, and full of stories that could fill a room with laughter or tears.
Mary didn't follow the rules-she rewrote them. She was the kind of woman who spoke her mind, stood her ground, and gave her heart without hesitation. Whether she was offering a sharp-witted comeback, turning everyday chaos into comedy, or creating warmth and comfort for those around her, she made life unforgettable.
She is survived by her daughters, Jody Davis and Casey Chambers; her son, Charles Elliott; her brother, John Wayne Powers; and grandchildren Russell Elliott, Gracie Elliott, Amber Ables, Lilly Carey, Laila Chambers, Lydia Chambers, Gauge Kays, and JJ Elliott. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved and cherished. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Carey; her sister, Linda Milligan; and dear family members JR Ables and Larry Beatt.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on August 7, 2025, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.-on what would have been her 64th birthday-at the Botanical Center Banquet Hall, 2400 S. Scenic Ave, Springfield, MO 65807. Please come as you are, and come ready to share stories. She wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating blood to your local blood bank. Mary was a grateful recipient of blood donations, which gave her family more cherished time with her. That gift of life is a powerful way to continue her legacy of love and generosity.
Mary was unforgettable-and she would've made sure you never forgot her. Her spirit lives on in every daring laugh, rebellious spark, and heartfelt moment shared in her name.
