Barbara L. Carey

Barbara L. (Douglass) Carey, of East Bridgewater and formerly of Milton, passed away on July 23, 2025.

In her early years, Barbara was a skilled roller skater, model, and avid dancer. She enjoyed years of travel as an Army wife before settling in East Bridgewater to raise her family. She was a CCD teacher at St. John's Church and member of the East Bridgewater school boosters club. At 50 years old she fulfilled her dream of going back to school, attending Massasoit College, and becoming a registered nurse. She helped countless patients in her years as a nurse both in the hospital setting and in an office setting. Free time was spent golfing, bird watching, and catching up with the lifelong friends she was blessed with. She could also be found with family at their beach cottage in Buzzard's Bay. Barbara's passion was attending the sporting events in town. She was the greatest cheerleader for her grandchildren and later took on the role of "sports mom" to all the children in town. She loved watching the games and became well known for her loving support. Family was the foundation of Barbara's happiness, and she was a devoted matriarch. To know her was to love her and she will be deeply missed.

Beloved wife of the late John Carey. Devoted mother of Jay Carey and his wife Cindy, Sandy Kendrick and her husband Lee, Brian Carey, and his wife Cindi; all of East Bridgewater, and the late Doug Carey. Cherished grandmother of Kristen, David, Kelly, Lauren, Katie, Danielle, Stephanie, Tyler, Joey, Alex, Mitch and great-grandchildren Hunter, Avery, Ellie, Quinn, Josie, Oliver and soon-to-be Baby K. Loving sister of Ruth Meucci of Sandwich, Donna Sassone of Pocasset, Marilyn Archibald of Sandwich and the late Paul and Bob Douglass. Also survived by multiple generations of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, July 28th from 10am-12pm at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 98 Bedford Street in Bridgewater. A Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home at 12pm. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Barbara may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
