Mary Alice Carter, lovingly known as "Gram," was a beacon of kindness in the lives of all who knew her. Born on July 21, 1932, in Evansville, Indiana, she lived a life rich with love, faith, and joy, leaving an indelible mark on family and friends. Mary Alice passed away peacefully at home on October 7 2024, surrounded by her loving family, a testament to the deep connections she nurtured throughout her life.

Gram was not just a grandmother; she was a cornerstone of her family, always welcoming and eager to have her grandchildren surrounding her. The memories of joyful gatherings, laughter, and shared stories will forever echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be part of her world. Her spirit was grounded in her profound love for God, and she exemplified her faith with her kind actions and compassionate heart.

Beyond her role as a grandmother, Mary Alice had a passion for gardening. She found serenity in nurturing her plants and flowers, taking solace in the peaceful rhythm of nature. Those who were lucky enough to taste her famous chocolate cake will remember its rich flavor and the love with which it was baked. Her home was a haven—a place of comfort, laughter, and open arms where family gathered to create lasting memories.

Mary Alice's proudest accomplishments included her enduring love story with her husband, Don (Pop) Carter. They were childhood sweethearts who built a beautiful life together, moving to California and crafting a loving family from the foundation of their relationship. Her adoration for her home was matched only by her affection for her family, whom she cherished deeply.

Mary Alice is survived by her beloved children: Rebecca Alvarez and family, Donna and Stu Bell and family, Jennifer and Tony Onorati and family, Kelli and Craig Lyford and family, Michelle Carter, Darren (Rock) and Megan Carter and family, along with Doug and Shelley Carter and family; 17 grand children and 22 great grandchildren.  Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, kindness, and faith.

Though she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Don, her spirit will continue to inspire those she left behind. The impact of her loving ways and unwavering faith will resonate within her family, guiding them as they navigate life without her physical presence. Gram will forever be remembered, missed, and adored, living on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to call her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Mission Hospice in San Diego, or Sisters of Saint Benedict, 802 East 10th Street, Ferdinand, IN 47532

Services will be on Oct 25 at Our Lady Of Grace Church, El Cajon; Rosary  9:30am, Mass 10:00am, all are welcome.
