Obituary published on Legacy.com by Malloy & Son Funeral Home - Galveston on Jan. 15, 2024.
Mary Agnes Lozano (Stella) Castro, our precious mother passed away at her treasured Castro family home in
Galveston, Texas, surrounded by her cherished family and friends. She was 90 years old, a true islander who loved being a Galvestonian.
She was a devout Roman Catholic who was a completely devoted daughter of Christ. She spent her days reciting the rosary daily, celebrating Mass via EWTN in her favorite recliner. She loved looking out her large window and enjoyed the days when her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, reminisced of days past as she was updated of their latest exciting adventures.
She was a beloved longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mary was a cherished member of the Damas, of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Her faith was her true foundation. The Damas loved Mary for faith, dedication and her infectious spirit.
Family and friends were Mary's love and joy, and she was the bright sunshine they desired to be near. She loved to try new recipes and entertain frequently, having dinner parties and prayer sessions in her cherished home. Her passions were gardening and cooking; for the pleasure of serving others her delicious dishes.
She was a woman of strength, the quiet in the center of a bad storm, being the strong anchor of our family. She gave us the support and encouragement and gave us a strong legacy that will continue to be honored. She was a selfless woman and had a heart ready to help anyone in need. Her heart was big and she loved to the fullest. Her memory will not be forgotten, but her cherished love will remain in our hearts forever and ever. We were beyond blessed to have her as our mother. We are beyond sad, but know that she will always be with us in our hearts.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Mary are her devoted husband, Manuel M. Castro; infant son, Manuel John Castro; parents, John D. and Elvira Lozano; brothers, John F. Lozano and Rudolph Lozano; sister, Mary Lewis Nava; and infant grandson, Keith Martinez.
Loved ones that will miss Mary until they meet again are her three daughters: Juanita Martinez (Benny); Manuela (Bernie) Benavides (Richard Sr.); and Victoria L. Castro all of
