Mary Carmela (DeCurtis) Dampman, a beacon of love and generosity, departed from this world on October 31, 2025, in Glendolden, leaving behind a legacy of selfless devotion and cherished memories. Born on May 8, 1938, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Paul D., Sr. and Mary C. (McGough) DeCurtis and sister of the late, Paul DeCurtis, Jr., Mary was the guiding star of her family, a role she embraced with boundless energy and joy.
Mary's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her family. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband of 67 years, David F. Dampman, Jr., and a nurturing mother to her children, David A. Dampman and his wife, Judy; Vicki (Dampman) Rowe, wife of the late Samuel A. Rowe; and the late Steven D. Dampman. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Doug Schauerman; Brian Dampman and his wife, Jessica; Christopher Dampman and his wife, Sarah; Steven Dampman; Michael Dampman; David Cherubini and his wife, Kim; and Lauren Flick and her husband, Rich. Mary was also a proud great-grandmother to Sadie, Gabriella, Jackson, Haven, Christopher, David, Brianna, Carter, Dominic, Manny, Bella, and Raelynn, and a cherished great-great-grandmother to three.
Educated at West Catholic Girls' High School, Mary's life was a testament to the power of love and dedication. While she initially poured her heart into being a homemaker, she later shared her warmth and hospitality with the community as a Deli Manager at the former Pisano's Sandwich Shop and Guys Cold Cuts. Her colleagues and customers alike were drawn to her infectious smile and caring nature.
Mary's zest for life was evident in her many passions. She was an artist in the kitchen, known for her mouthwatering meatballs and the delicate art of making Pizzelles. Her love for crosswords, camping down the shore, baking, shopping, decorating, and spending time with her grandchildren showcased her dynamic spirit and the joy she found in simple pleasures.
Those who knew Mary would describe her as the epitome of love, generosity, and selflessness. She had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel special, to turn a house into a home, and to create warmth that extended far beyond the walls of her own abode. Her laughter was a symphony that resonated with the hearts of many, and her hands, always busy in service of others, were the tools through which she sculpted a life of profound impact.
Mary's brother-in-law, Harry Dampman and his partner, Walter, will remember her as a sister with an immeasurable capacity for love and kindness. She was a woman who believed in the goodness of people and the power of a well-timed hug or a plate of homemade cookies to brighten someone's day.
As we reflect on the life of Mary Carmela (DeCurtis) Dampman, let us carry forward her legacy of love and selflessness. Her life was a masterclass in compassion, and she taught us that the richest treasures are found in the hearts of those we hold dear. Mary's spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us that every day is an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and motivation to live our lives with the same passion and purpose that she did.
